Don’t get me started! A girl that likes video games?!? Yeah, go ahead and ogle me because that never gets boring nor old just like the sexist comments. Really, it’s not that crazy of an idea. Girls that have to declare that their title is “gamer girl” whenever there are boys around are just as fucking obnoxious. We get it. You’re not like “other” girls. Awesome. Now stfu.
I’ve had an affair with video games ever since I was a little child. I remember wrestling my brother for the Atari controller and always fucking losing. So, I’d just have to sit there and imagine myself playing because he wasn’t letting up anytime soon! Every Christmas I’d get Barbies, and he’d get the latest video game console. Shit was sickening; it was hard to contain my rage.
He went through Ataris, Nintendos, Super Nintendos, Sega Genesis, Dreamcasts, Playstations. As the consoles rolled out the older I became, the closer I also came to employment.
One of my first jobs was as a waitress, and I made hefty tips because of my incredible personality! I remember rushing to my nearest Best Buy and picking up the sexy slim Playstation 2, a copy of Bully and a copy of Kingdom Hearts 2. I did my research on these games before buying them because I don’t have money to waste, and these two had awesome reviews.
At this point of my life I was around 20 years old. I was an unmotivated, uninspired freelance web developer trying to make a breakthrough. I had no new ideas or any idea of where to draw inspiration… and then along came Sora!
I fell in love with both games. I became avid and made a lot of friends as I’m a poor gamer — I had to learn how to trade or become a slick hustler. I learned how to download saving points from my computer then load them on my memory card.
What I didn’t learn is how to be the fastest, smartest killing machine! I realized I don’t play these games like most people do. I play them quite honestly to enjoy them. I like to take notice in the time and effort that was put into the creation of a game… Yeah, I’m the “OooOoh SHINY!” chick. I don’t have the highest score, I can’t beat the shit out of you in any game, I’ve never completed a game without the help of the internet, and I fucking suck at multi-player. Seriously, I’ll advise you to never invite me to play. I’ll never be the amazing “chick gamer” at a video game competition because in all honesty, I love video games but I’m not that dedicated.
Does this mean I’m not a gamer? No, it just means I’m a really shitty gamer! Which is completely fine, but don’t belittle me because I love this industry just as much as you do… Even though you have more trophies than me. ;)
